In a covered wagon the Charlton family made the long and tiresome journey along the Snake River from Kentucky to Idaho, crossing into Canada in the summer of 1910. Homesteading along the Ribstone Creek in East Central Alberta was a fortuitous stroke of luck, for the location provided a vast natural meadow and a reliable source of winter feed in often unreliable times.
Like most, the family faced difficult times and an unforgiving climate, but it also thrived over the years with a varied operation consisting of cattle, sheep, and horses. By the 1940s, cattle had become the venture of choice and cross-bred, easy calving cows our family legacy.
In 2010, the Charlton family was honoured to receive the Century Farm & Ranch Award for its 100-year commitment to agriculture in Alberta. Today, we are even more proud to welcome home the next generation of cattle ranchers.
